Wow, this table is really the best reason I can think of to buy a house.

I feel it should come with an elevated platform/ceiling charged with a powerful electromagnetic field, and sticky little magnets to attack to the bottom of your miniatures.

Maybe said ceiling can be glass, so you can put your anime dolls on top and get the full pantsu effect.

Come to think of it, power and network jacks on top are a definite must.

Oh man. That's a far cry above what my friend made for our gaming group (6'x4' plywood with hinges and handles on folding, separate legs).

I'm pleased that this exists, even if I will probably never own it.

At $8,800 for the low-end model, yeah. I doubt I'd ever end up with one of these. They do look nice, though.

Check out the Emissary then, it looks more our style anyways. $1,500 has 6 drawers (One is the GM station), Cup holders are extra, still has the "Layer Cake" style surface. You could do cards on the internal surface and even craps if you put down a felt liner. The Emissary seems much more doable.

could you use it as a dining table as well? Maybe by adding a thick piece of glass on top of the layer cake?

1500 for a nice dining table doesn't sound bad at all

Wow.

I had been wondering to do with all that space in our family room....

Yeah, okay, probably not, but still. Wow.

Yes, they come with leaves to cover up the dropped play surface:

The gang of us should just chip in to rent an office and install this table in it for communal gaming. Laughing

We could install one in a trailer and have a mobile gaming lounge.

Since I'm table shopping and obsessing over how big I need it, I just checked out the dimensions of this thing. It's 5'6" wide with its drawers closed. 66 inches. That's the *length* of a typical 6 person table, the inner game surface itself has the dimensions of an unusually wide 8-person table.

In other words, to play RPGs everyone is effectively talking to each other from opposite ends of a table or from two chairs down. Horrible for conversation. To play a normal sized board game, you'd have to put it at one end and have everyone walk around to make their move.

It's not a "gaming" table, it's a wargame table.

Hmm, maybe the Emissary is a better example of a gaming table then, it's 4' 7" x 6' 8".

Then again these guys seem to pride themselves in custom work, so I'm sure they would build a skinnier Sultan to order. That is assuming of course that you need a solution to having a serious excess of money.

I think the Sultan would be great for anything where you need to move figures around maps - wargames, battletech, etc. - you'd be standing and moving around half the time, so the distance from player to player isn't as important. Also, more distance means the other players can't see what you've got hidden on your desk.

The Emissary is probably made for RPGs, and I definitely agree that if you pony up 3000 bucks, the builders can work something out to suit your needs.
